The island of Maui is unique in its nearly flawless fusion of commercial enthusiasm and rural island flavor. As someone who has been making annual pilgrimages to Maui, I would like to offer a brief clinic on how to spend a perfect day on the Valley Isle. Hopefully after reading the following information, you will be able to see for yourself why Maui is often considered Hawaiis best kept secret.
Having been all over the island, I stand firm in my conviction that the west side of Maui is by far the best. When making your travel arrangements, I highly recommend procuring an oceanfront vacation rental (such as a condominium and/or beach house) in Kahana, Kaanapali or Napili Bay. Such properties are cheaper than area hotels and offer vacationers the opportunity to experience Maui like a resident.
How to Spend the Ideal Maui Day
The way to begin the perfect Maui day is to wake up early, make yourself a pot of Kona coffee, go out on your balcony or lanai, and watch the spectacular sunrise. Then either go back to bed or lounge on the beach until 10:00 A.M. or so, at which time prepare to make a trip into Lahaina Town for breakfast. There are many excellent breakfast spots in Lahaina, but none can compete with Longhis on Front Street. With its scrumptious fresh fare and beachside appeal, Longhis is by far the best place for breakfast.
After youve stuffed yourself, take a leisurely walk around town and explore some of Front Streets unique shops and historical buildings. Then, return to your condo for some quality time on the beach. Around 3:00 or so, head back inside for an après-sun nap. Dont sleep for too long, however, as youll want to have plenty of time to get ready and leave in time to watch the sunset at the Plantation Club restaurant in nearby Kapalua (a truly awe-inspiring sight).
Finally, either remain at the Plantation Club and enjoy a mouthwatering Hawaiian meal or return to your beachfront rental and whip up a home-cooked meal of Maui Onion pasta or fresh mahi-mahi. Then, open your windows, get into bed, and let the sound of gentle waves lure you to sleep.

Helicopter tours of inland valleys are very popular and offer otherwise hidden views of magnificent waterfalls and breathtaking Waimea Canyon.
If you are interested in taking a trip to one of the worlds most beautiful and untouched islands, then look no further than Kauai. Princeville, Hanalei and most of the west sides picturesque towns will lure you into a state of natural euphoria. Just be careful; after a few days in Princeville, you might never want to leave!
